The Friends of Historic Onondaga Lake

Working with Onondaga County Parks, the Friends of Historic Onondaga Lake(FoHoL) is striving to transform our community gem - Onondaga Lake - into an interactive destination that will continue to celebrate this area's rich history and reflect its vibrant future. Your help - donations, membership, volunteering or visiting each facility - will assist us in developing additional programs and amenities to enhance the region's recreational and educational needs.

Since opening 75 years ago, the Salt Museum and Sainte Marie among the Iroquois have educated countless visitors and offered them a window into the way the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Jesuit Missionaries, and French explorers lived on the shores of Onondaga Lake. These historical sites have also offered a look into the early industrial years of salt production and the impact of the Erie Canal in Central New York.

For more than 25 years, FoHOL has worked diligently to preserve these pieces of local history. And today, we continue to stay true to our mission of connecting with the past and creating an achievable vision for the future of our lake community.
